About GYST
The GYST initiative aims to foster interest and participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among girls, encouraging them to pursue STEM-related careers in the future by empowering them to solve local community issues through innovative scientific and technological principles.

Roles of Mentors
- Provide guidance and support to a team of young girls throughout their GYST project

Frequently Asked Questions
How much time will I need to commit as a mentor?
We ask mentors to commit approximately 1-2 hours weekly throughout the GYST project (August to December)
Do I need to be based in Nigeria to be a mentor?
While local mentors are preferred, we also welcome international mentors who can commit to virtual mentoring sessions.
What qualifications do I need to become a mentor?
We’re looking for women with a degree or significant experience in STEM fields. Passion for inspiring young girls is essential!
Can I choose which team or project I mentor?
We do our best to match mentors with teams based on expertise and interests, but cannot guarantee specific assignments.
Is there any financial compensation for mentors?
This is a volunteer opportunity. However, we provide networking opportunities, recognition, and professional development.
What support will I receive as a mentor?
We provide an initial orientation, ongoing support from the GYST team, and resources to help you succeed in your mentoring role.
Can I mentor more than one team?
Initially, we assign one team per mentor. Depending on your availability and program needs, there may be opportunities to support multiple teams.
What if I can't continue mentoring due to unforeseen circumstances?
We understand that situations change. Please inform us as soon as possible so we can arrange alternative support for your team.
